Bareback Mountain

August J. Pollack of xoverboard is miffed, and rightly so, at the unthinking sexism of assuming that playing gay cowboys would hurt Keith Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal's careers:
It has wowed film festivals, won rave reviews and sparked Oscar buzz, but when "Brokeback Mountain," a.k.a. the gay cowboy movie, begins playing to general audiences on Friday, it faces its toughest challenge yet - wooing mainstream America.

Two of Hollywood's hottest leading men, Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger, risk alienating fans and sending their stars plummeting if, after watching the pair have sex on screen, audiences cannot see them any other way than gay.

It's not fair, is it? If an actress plays a lesbian, it's either sure-fire box office or Oscar bait. But a man can't do it without tempting doom upon his career? I mean, I am sure there are a lot of women out there who find Gay Cowboys hott. I mean, all that slash fiction did not write itself.

In non-gay-cowboy news, Pollack is involved in a cool project called Alito's America, taking all of Alito's sucktitude and condensing them into witty little animations. They also have links to all things Scalito. Go see.
Alito's America: It's Not Our America.
