Rachel Corrie play cancelled
An award-winning hit (in London) play based on the life of Rachel Corrie was slated to play in NYC, only to to be "postponed...indefinitely" due to changes in the political climate. "Listening in our communities in New York, what we heard was that after Ariel Sharon's illness and the election of Hamas in the recent Palestinian elections, we had a very edgy situation," was the way the artistic director of the theatre delicately put it.
I don't like this one bit. Whether or not one agrees with Corrie's point of view, she is an American woman whose story has tremendous bearing on a part of the world that is crackling with tension. The recent developments in the news have made her story more relevant, not less.
